Welcome to Monsoon Voyages.
The Historical Rainfall Rescue Project in Malaysia and Singapore, aims to digitize and analyze historical rainfall data from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This initiative addresses the critical need for long-term climate records to better understand past weather patterns and inform future climate models. By rescuing data from old meteorological records, diaries, and reports, the project has uncovered detailed rainfall information that was previously inaccessible. Notable examples include the digitization of rainfall records from the Straits Settlements between 1875 and 1950, and from key locations such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Singapore. These records provide valuable insights into monsoon behaviour, extreme weather events, and seasonal variability. The project not only contributes to regional climate research but also enhances global climate databases, offering a richer perspective on historical climate trends in Southeast Asia.
